Grubhub and The Greg Hill Foundation’s Restaurant Strong Fund Announce New National Grant Cycle, Marking Fifth Year of Partnership

BOSTON, MA – Grubhub and The Greg Hill Foundation’s Restaurant Strong Fund are proud to announce a new round of national grant opportunities totaling $775,000, made possible by the Grubhub Community Fund, to support small business restaurants across the country. As we celebrate five years of partnership, we remain deeply committed to lifting independent restaurants – recognizing now more than ever the urgent need to support small businesses as they navigate ongoing economic challenges and strive to grow within their communities.

Beginning Monday, December 8, 2025, the Restaurant Strong Fund will begin accepting applications on a rolling basis through Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Grants are designed to drive revenue growth and may support a wide range of operational needs, including, but not limited to: upgrading technology or equipment, marketing and public relations services, staff training programs, incentive-based wages, and maintenance or enhancement of existing infrastructure.

Restaurants applying for funding must outline clear and specific plans for how the grant will be used and define measurable goals for expected growth. Grant awards will be in the amount $5,000 based on demonstrated need and potential impact.

In addition to the general grant program, Grubhub and the Restaurant Strong Fund will once again present the Restaurant Strong Community Award, recognizing small business restaurants that go above and beyond in serving their communities. Whether through volunteerism, charitable meals, partnerships with local nonprofits, or other meaningful community-driven initiatives, this award honors the businesses that reflect the heart and spirit of their neighborhoods.

Grants from The Restaurant Strong Fund will be limited to single-location restaurants that meet the following criteria:
• Must be open and operating in the contiguous United States
• Completed application form
• Detailed explanation of need and intended use of funds
• Evidence of financial or operational need

The Restaurant Strong Community Award must satisfy the following requirements:
• Must be open and operating in the contiguous United States
• Completed application form
• At least one reference and/or link to news coverage, program materials, photos, or other documentation demonstrating community impact
• Explanation of how funding will further community-driven initiatives

A portion of grant funds will be dedicated specifically to restaurants located in the Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia), and Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston areas, while the remaining funds will be available to small business restaurants nationwide. Restaurants may apply for both the general grant program and the Restaurant Strong Community Award; however, preference for general grants is given to first-time awardees.

All grants will be announced the second week of January, continuing our shared mission to give back and to invest in small business restaurants that strengthen and sustain the communities they serve.

Grubhub’s 2025 Delivered Trend Report Confirms America Entered Its Foodmaxxing Era to Get the Most Out of Every Bite and Sip

Foodmaxxing turned beans, tinned fish, and cold foam into breakout stars, all in the name of maximum wellness, function, and of course, social currency

In 2025, diners didn’t simply crave flavor, they craved a one-two punch that delivered on taste and functional benefits. According to Grubhub’s 2025 Delivered Report, the country went all-in on Foodmaxxing, a cultural shift where meals, snacks, drinks, and grocery orders were designed for maximum nutritional value, functional payoff, and yes, a little extra aesthetic appeal for their social feeds.

Grubhub’s trend report analyzes millions of orders placed throughout the year on the Grubhub platform, and they all tell the same story: this was the year food had to prove itself. People wanted meals that did everything from boosting energy to supporting gut health, and of course, hitting those protein goals. If food didn’t do something for you, it wasn’t getting ordered.

See below for the full report and how Foodmaxxing showed up in Grubhub orders across the country*:

FIBERMAXXING: THE GUT HEALTH ERA
Beans were the breakout star of Foodmaxxing. Grocery bean orders on Grubhub jumped 135%, totaling more than 1.5 tons of legumes delivered nationwide.

Dense bean salads – chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans – became the unofficial lunch of wellness heroes and gut-health enthusiasts, racking up millions of views across social media. Los Angeles led bean ordering nationwide on the platform this year. Peak Foodmaxxing behavior.

TINNED FISH: THE ULTIMATE UPGRADED BASIC
Foodmaxing rules are all about consuming simple things that have an outsized impact, and tinned fish did just that. Grubhub orders of tinned fish tripled in 2025, with grocery purchases up 209% over 2024.

What used to sit quietly in a pantry became photo-ready spreads: curated boards, artisanal sourdough, pickled veggies, and glossy olive-oil drizzles. Protein-packed, healthy fats, simple prep, and always camera-ready, that’s Foodmaxxing math.

THE YEAR PROTEIN BECAME A PERSONALITY
2025 wasn’t just high-protein, it was protein-coded. Diners didn’t simply eat it; they chased it, flaunted it, and folded it into everything. Protein-labeled grocery items available on Grubhub increased nearly 20%, popping up in unexpected places from cookies to popcorn to cinnamon rolls.

But even with all the experimentation, the country’s true protein obsession held strong. Grubhub diners ordered more than 750+ nuggets, tenders, and strips from restaurants every single hour; that’s about 5.2 million so far this year (and climbing). And in the country’s biggest cities, 76% of all chicken orders included nuggets. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia proudly lead the way – true capitals of nugget nation.

Foodmaxxing rule #1: if it gives you protein and joy, it stays.

COLD FOAM: THE LITTLE LUXURY AMERICA WOULDN’T SKIP
Foodmaxxing is about micro-upgrades that make everyday routines feel elevated. Enter cold foam. Cold foam orders surged 75% on Grubhub this year, becoming the go-to coffee enhancement for people who refused to settle for “just a latte.” Every morning coffee suddenly had that extra layer of flavor and texture that served main character energy.

MATCHA WAS THE GREEN FLAG OF 2025
Matcha became the drink of choice for anyone optimizing their day. Matcha orders on Grubhub jumped 34% as it shifted from a niche wellness drink to a staple energy source. Focused energy + L-theanine calm + aesthetic rituals on your FYP = prime Foodmaxxing territory.

AMERICA’S EGG-ERA
Eggs entered their redemption arc in 2025. Grubhub grocery orders skyrocketed 58%, fueled by protein-packed breakfasts, meal-prep mania, and the rise of viral egg “flights” taking over social feeds.

As for the most-ordered egg dish? The sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago led the charge in SEC orders, proof that the sandwich is still America’s undefeated breakfast MVP. Demand was so strong, someone in one of these cities was unwrapping an SEC every few minutes.

It’s safe to say, the once humble egg has finally cracked its way back into diners’ hearts and carts.

THE CONVENIENCE STORE GLOW UP
One of the biggest Foodmaxxing surprises? The rise of convenience stores as meal destinations. In a shift from soda-dominated purchases from Grubhub’s 2024 findings, the top items ordered weren’t chips or candy. They were hot, protein-forward, grab-and-go foods like taquitos, chicken rollers, and hot dogs. Convenience got strategic.

HYDRATION GOES PRIME TIME
Foodmaxxing didn’t stop at eating; hydration leveled up too. Grubhub delivered more than 76K electrolyte drinks per month, turning hydration into a curated routine for recovery, focus, and productivity. Tap water simply could not keep up.

Grubhub and National ACE Award $485,000 in Funding to Strengthen Nearly 100 Community Restaurants Through Accelerator and Grant Programs

In neighborhoods across the country, family-run restaurants open their doors each morning with a blend of tradition, determination, and hope. Today, 97 of those restaurants are receiving a new source of support. The National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (National ACE) and Grubhub have announced the 2025 Restaurant Accelerator & Community Fund Grant recipients.

This program, made possible by the Grubhub Community Fund, empowers all restaurateurs, including Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), by combining financial support of $5,000 with a four-part virtual accelerator focused on maximizing revenue, building a strong digital presence, and attracting more customers. From upgrading kitchen equipment and enhancing online ordering systems to supporting staff and streamlining day-to-day operations, this grant helps restaurants make strategic investments that fuel long-term growth.

“Small businesses are the engine of economic advancement in every community,” said Chiling Tong, President and CEO of National ACE. “Restaurants in New York City alone supported hundreds of thousands of jobs and generated tens of billions in economic activity. Neighborhoods like Manhattan’s Chinatown, Flushing in Queens, and Chicago’s Argyle and Devon corridors thrive as vibrant hubs of entrepreneurship, powered by family-owned restaurants. That’s why we’re proud to continue supporting them and helping these businesses grow, innovate, and strengthen the communities they serve.”

This effort is part of a deeper, ongoing collaboration between National ACE and Grubhub. Since the partnership began, more than $6.6 million has been invested directly into small businesses, helping thousands of entrepreneurs strengthen their operations and keep their communities fed.

“We are proud of our continued partnership with National ACE,” said Brianna Morris, associate director of community impact at Grubhub. “Independent restaurants often face unique challenges in a competitive landscape. This integrated approach is designed to help these small businesses expand their digital reach, customer base, and ultimately position themselves for sustainable, long-term growth, and success within their communities.”

Grubhub Expands Partnership with Avride to Bring Autonomous Delivery Robots to Its Marketplace

CHICAGO and AUSTIN, TX (October 23, 2025) – Grubhub is expanding its partnership with Avride to launch a robot delivery pilot for customers ordering from Wonder’s Jersey City location. The initiative marks the first time Grubhub has offered autonomous delivery in its marketplace outside of college campuses — and the first time Wonder is bringing robot delivery to its customers.

During the pilot, customers can place orders from Wonder’s Jersey City location through the Grubhub platform as usual. If an eligible delivery address is within a set range of the restaurant, they will have the option to choose delivery via an Avride robot.

Wonder’s unique multi-restaurant model makes it an ideal partner to launch this pilot. Diners can choose from more than 20 different restaurant concepts — including Alanza, Tejas Barbecue, Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson — with every dish made to order in a Wonder storefront and delivered fast and free. This combination of speed, variety, and quality makes for a seamless experience that pairs perfectly with the efficiency of robot delivery.

Following the pilot, Grubhub plans to implement any learnings and expand autonomous delivery to additional markets nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and delivering an even faster, more reliable experience for customers everywhere.

“This pilot represents the next step in our mission to provide diners with fast, reliable, and delightful delivery experiences,” said PJ Poykayil, SVP of Customer Delivery Operations at Wonder and Grubhub.“By combining Grubhub’s marketplace, Wonder’s culinary innovation, and Avride’s advanced robotics, we’re delivering the future of convenience.”

The pilot will feature Avride’s most advanced delivery robots to date, guided by AI-powered autonomous driving technology, proven in challenging urban environments and diverse weather conditions to enable real-time navigation decisions with accuracy and reliability. Equipped with a precision-engineered four-wheel chassis capable of near-instant 180-degree turns and exceptional maneuverability, the robots ensure smooth, efficient deliveries even on the busy city sidewalks.

“We’re proud to be Grubhub’s trusted partner as they bring robot delivery beyond campuses for the very first time. For Avride, this marks an important step in expanding robotic delivery. Going beyond traditional restaurant or grocery delivery, it highlights how seamlessly our technology can integrate with innovative platforms like Wonder’s, opening up new business verticals for autonomous delivery,” said Dmitry Polishchuk, CEO Avride.

Grubhub and Avride have already built a strong foundation through their campus partnerships over the last year. They have completed more than 100,000 robot deliveries across U.S. campuses, including The Ohio State University — home to the largest single-site robot food delivery program in the country, where a fleet of over 120 robots delivers meals to students every day.

(NYSE: XYZ) today announced a comprehensive partnership with Grubhub that upgrades restaurants’ food ordering ecosystem through an integration with Square’s point-of-sale system and the addition of Cash App Pay as a payment option for Grubhub customers. This partnership demonstrates the power of Block’s ecosystem to solve pain points for both restaurants and customers, while expanding access to millions of potential customers for restaurants.

The integration introduces two key features to the food ordering landscape. First, Square’s integration with Grubhub, announced at Square Releases last week, helps eliminate operational complexity for restaurants by enabling them to manage all orders directly through their Square point-of-sale system. Second, the addition of Cash App Pay as a payment option gives millions of Grubhub customers more flexibility in how they pay for their orders.

“At Grubhub, we’re always looking for ways to help restaurants simplify operations and reach more diners,” said Howard Migdal, CEO at Grubhub. “By integrating directly with Square’s point-of-sale system, we’re removing friction for restaurants so they can manage all their orders in one place, streamline kitchen workflows, and keep menus up to date with ease. And with the addition of Cash App Pay, we’re giving diners even more flexibility and convenience at checkout — all while helping restaurants tap into a new audience of potential customers.”

Square’s seamless Grubhub integration enables restaurants to:

  • Manage all orders directly through their Square POS system, eliminating the need for additional tablets
  • Control menus, modifiers, and inventory across channels from a single dashboard
  • Send orders directly to the kitchen, reducing errors and streamlining operations
  • Access Instant Payouts to maintain steady cash flow
  • Reach millions of Grubhub customers while maintaining operational efficiency

The integration of Cash App Pay provides diners with:

  • A new seamless payment option when checking out on Grubhub
  • Special offers and promotions for Cash App Pay customers
  • Enhanced payment flexibility and convenience

“This partnership showcases Block’s unique ability to drive value for both sellers and customers by serving both sides of the counter,” said Nick Molnar, Global Head of Sales and Marketing at Block. “By uniting Square’s operational capabilities with Cash App’s flexible payment technology, we’re creating a commerce ecosystem that benefits everyone, where restaurants can focus on delivering quality while giving customers more ways to pay.”

This partnership underscores both Grubhub’s and Block’s commitment to innovation, supporting sellers and customers with intuitive technology that makes both running a business and paying for services easier – strengthening local communities in the process.

Grubhub and Nourishing Hope Expand Partnership to Combat Food Insecurity Across Chicago

CHICAGO, IL –  Grubhub, a leading U.S. ordering and delivery marketplace, has expanded its partnership with Nourishing Hope, one of Chicago’s leading hunger relief and social service organizations, to support families facing food insecurity in some of the city’s most underserved neighborhoods.

Since 2021, Grubhub has been one of Nourishing Hope’s largest corporate partners, donating more than 150 hours of employee volunteer time and contributing over $1.15 million through the Grubhub Community Fund to support the organization’s expanding programs. The most recent Grubhub Community Fund grant, which supported the donation of a delivery truck, marks a significant investment in operational infrastructure that will accelerate the growth of Nourishing Hope’s Online Market program.

As part of this investment, the newly donated delivery truck will be on-site at the Chicago Cubs’ inaugural Oktoberfest, taking place September 19–21 at the Toyota Camry Lot in Wrigleyville. In partnership with the Cubs, Nourishing Hope will be collecting nonperishable food donations throughout the three-day event, with fans encouraged to drop off items at the Nourishing Hope tent.

“We’re honored to partner with Grubhub to bring greater food access to families across Chicago. This partnership helps us reach more people with not just food, but the support and consistency they deserve,” says Drew Moran, chief development officer of Nourishing Hope.

The truck will play a vital role in scaling the Online Market, a flexible and user-friendly grocery ordering platform that allows individuals and families to place orders online and pick them up at times and locations that are convenient for them. This expansion builds on foundational support from the Grubhub Community Fund, which provided a grant to Nourishing Hope for the Online Market program. With this new vehicle, Nourishing Hope will be able to expand to six new community partners this calendar year — particularly on Chicago’s South and West sides — and complete over 15,000 Online Market orders, representing nearly a 50% increase compared to the previous year.

This logistical capacity is key to ensuring timely, reliable food access as Nourishing Hope continues to expand into new neighborhoods. The Online Market program is designed to reduce barriers and meet people where they are, offering a dignified and dependable source of fresh, nutritious food.

We see here how when two mission-aligned organizations combine their strengths, it’s possible to create sustainable solutions to hunger. Together, Nourishing Hope and Grubhub are working to remove systemic barriers to nourishment and expand access across the city.

Since 2004, Grubhub has invested in the communities where it operates, with a focus on its hometown of Chicago, to successfully scale community impact efforts and partnerships while making strategic investments to help neighbors thrive.

“We’re proud to deepen our partnership with Nourishing Hope by providing the vehicle support needed to expand their Online Market program. This investment is about more than transportation — it’s about ensuring families across Chicago, especially on the South and West Sides, have reliable access to fresh, nutritious food. At Grubhub, we’re committed to tackling food insecurity with solutions that deliver access, stability, and lasting community impact,” said Brianna Morris, associate director of community impact, Grubhub.
