“Local restaurants are working to meet the growing demands of diners, and diners are asking for delivery and pickup options that cater to certain dietary restrictions,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO. “GrubHub has more than 1,400 restaurants that feature vegetarian cuisine, and this number will only continue to grow in the coming years.”

Carnivore, herbivore or omnivore, regardless of dietary choices, diners can find their next great meal by using one of GrubHub’s 80+ cuisine filters. Filter options range from Kosher, Vegan and Organic to Pizza, Wings and Dessert. Here are some additional tips for finding the perfect GrubHub meal:

Exotic Toppings Popular As Pizza Claims Most Patriotic Food

Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken Among GrubHub List of Most Popular Pizzas

CHICAGO, June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — As Americans begin dusting off the red, white and blue decorations, GrubHub, the nation’s number one food ordering service, dusted off the past year of orders to identify the most patriotic food. While it may come as no surprise that pizza tops the list of favorite American foods, diners’ tastes have evolved to prefer more unusual pizza toppings, with Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken ranking among GrubHub’s most popular pizza toppings.

To identify the most popular American food, GrubHub analysts sorted through more than 2.5 million orders from restaurants serving American cuisine. Although pizza originated in the Italian city of Naples, the American iteration of this culinary staple has had a special place in American hearts since the early 1800s. According to GrubHub diners, the most popular pizza is cheese, with Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken rounding out the top five:

American’s Favorite Pizza*
1.   Cheese Pizza
2.   Pepperoni Pizza
3.   Sausage Pizza
4.   Hawaiian Pizza
5.   Buffalo Chicken Pizza

“While it may seem bizarre that Hawaiian pizza is so popular, it isn’t that surprising given how much the food industry has changed in the past few years,” said Matt Maloney, GrubHub co-founder and CEO. “Even the way people order food has changed. Instead of reading an order over the phone to a restaurant, diners can now tap a few buttons on GrubHub’s mobile app and order enough to feed their entire 4th of July party.”

Whether diners decide to go American over the holiday or not, GrubHub’s online and mobile ordering platforms are fully supported by GrubHub’s 24/7 customer service team:

  • GrubHub handles everything. Stuck in a post-fireworks traffic jam and afraid you won’t be home in time to meet the delivery driver? Contact GrubHub’s customer service team, and they will handle all communications with the restaurant.
  • No language barriers. GrubHub’s customer service team speaks up to eight different languages at any time, helping GrubHub serve its diverse diner and restaurant base.
  • Always accessible. Regardless of a diner’s preferred method of communication, GrubHub is there. GrubHub’s customer service team is available via phone, chat, twitter or email.

Warm-weather favorites like burgers and ribs continue to be commonly ordered menu items, but GrubHub analysts sorted through millions of transactions to determine the hot new menu items by comparing year-over-year ordering behaviors. According to GrubHub’s ordering data, hot dog consumption dropped while the non-traditional Kabob has increased in popularity.

Kabob 27%
Burger 6.5%

GrubHub Unveils Groundbreaking In-Restaurant Technology

OrderHub™ Mobile Technology Streamlines Ordering Process for Restaurants

CHICAGO, May 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — GrubHub, the nation’s leading online and mobile food ordering service, today announced the release of its new OrderHub tablet technology for restaurants. Further simplifying the food ordering process, OrderHub is the easiest and most efficient way for restaurants to manage the thousands of new online orders they get through GrubHub.

Since its founding, GrubHub has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in orders for restaurants by utilizing restaurant’s traditional in-house technology to transmit and confirm orders: the fax and phone. Through a process developed by GrubHub, orders are faxed to restaurants, and restaurants confirm they have received orders through an automated phone service.

OrderHub, an Android native app housed on a dedicated tablet, reduces the time restaurants spend confirming orders by more than 80 percent and allows restaurants to provide more accurate, real-time delivery estimates to diners. With the new OrderHub technology, GrubHub instantaneously pushes orders to restaurants through the app, and restaurants confirm the order with a few simple taps.

“While the fax and phone process has always worked well for our restaurants, this technology really takes us to the next level,” said Matt Maloney , GrubHub co-founder and CEO. “OrderHub allows restaurants to spend more time preparing food instead of taking orders.”

Since 2004, GrubHub has helped restaurants embrace new technology and dedicated considerable resources towards streamlining the ordering process. One such investment was GrubHub’s August 2011 acquisition of food-ordering app FanGo.

“Since the acquisition of FanGo, GrubHub has conducted hundreds of hours of research to ensure that OrderHub addressed restaurants’ needs. This is such a groundbreaking product, and we’ve only begun to tap into its potential,” said Maloney.

Approximately 400 OrderHubs are currently deployed in the Chicago market, and GrubHub plans on rolling out thousands of OrderHub tablets to their network of more than 13,000 restaurants in 300+ cities by the end of the year. For more information on GrubHub and the new OrderHub, visit www.grubhub.com or view the GrubHub OrderHub video.

GrubHub Identifies Cheapest Cuisines for Cash-Strapped Americans

GRUBHUB IDENTIFIES CHEAPEST CUISINES FOR CASH-STRAPPED AMERICANS

Jamaican Cuisine Most Affordable While French and Fine Dining Top Most Expensive

CHICAGO, Ill. (April 10, 2012) – As the tax-filing deadline looms, Americans are taking inventory of their expenses and assessing spending habits. With some Americans celebrating successful tax refunds and others tightening purse strings, GrubHub, the nation’s leading online and mobile food ordering service, has identified the most affordable and expensive restaurant cuisines available for delivery and pickup.

GrubHub analysts sorted through more than 1.5 million menu items and 80 cuisine types to rank affordability.

Budget-Friendly Fare:

  1. Jamaican
  2. Cantonese
  3. Halal
  4. Mandarin
  5. Pizza

Splurge-Worthy Plates:

  1. Fine Dining
  2. French
  3. Korean
  4. Persian
  5. African

“Great delivery and takeout food is available at any price point,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO. “Diners have the option to enjoy the $8 burger and fries or indulge in the $18 steak frites in the comfort of their home.”

In addition to sorting available pickup and delivery restaurants by cuisine, GrubHub diners can use the following sorting features to feed their food cravings without busting their budget:

·      Order minimum. Order minimums vary by restaurant and can range from $0 to $30. If ordering a meal for one, minimums may encourage a diner to add extra items to their order. But who doesn’t love leftovers?

·      Delivery fee. Like order minimums, delivery fees vary by restaurant and delivery distance. Avoid these entirely by ordering a meal for pickup.

·      Coupon filter. Looking for a deal? By applying GrubHub’s “Offers Coupons” filter, diners only view the restaurants offering deals and specials.

GrubHub Secures $50 Million and is Acquiring Campusfood and Allmenus

Company to Focus on its Increasing Footprint and Mobile Development

CHICAGO, Ill. (September 14, 2011) – GrubHub, a web and mobile service that connects diners to restaurants and simplifies online ordering for delivery and pick up, has raised $50 million in Series E funding to aggressively focus on its mobile development and acquire New York-based Dotmenu, the parent company of Campusfood and Allmenus. This Series E funding is led by Lightspeed Ventures with Mesirow Financial, Benchmark Capital, Greenspring Associates and DAG Ventures participating. Terms of the acquisition will not be disclosed.

“Since starting GrubHub with my partner Mike Evans in his apartment in 2004, we’ve sent over $200 million in delivery and pick up orders to independent restaurants across the country,” said Matt Maloney, GrubHub co-founder and CEO.  “With our unwavering focus on providing the best service to diners and the most efficient technology to restaurant owners, we have grown to become the leader in the online ordering space. It is precisely for this reason that we are acquiring Dotmenu. Dotmenu has shown great expertise in servicing the college market, and by combining our extensive networks, we will become the foremost resource for diners and restaurants for their online ordering needs.”

The Series E and Dotmenu acquisition comes just six months after GrubHub raised $20 million in funding led by DAG Ventures. The funding rounds, coupled with the acquisition, strengthen GrubHub’s position as the category-defining leader in the industry.

Through the acquisition, GrubHub will have the largest restaurant listing in the country with 250,000 restaurant menus in over 50 major cities and countless college towns across the US.  The two companies are projected to send over $225 million in combined order revenues to independent restaurants in 2011, and will continue together to achieve more aggressive growth in the years to come.

“GrubHub has a strong presence in the top US markets,” said Michael Saunders, Founder and President of Dotmenu.  “This, combined with our network across more than 300 college campuses, allows us to build upon the strong relationship we have with our diners long after they graduate. The acquisition will enable us to make an immediate impact on our restaurants by sending more orders their way.”

GrubHub is free for diners who order and pay for their meals with cash, credit or PayPal™. Restaurants pay commissions for each online order they receive from GrubHub, and every order is supported by GrubHub’s 24/7 customer service. Restaurants that do not currently partner with GrubHub can still list their telephone numbers and menus for free.

Visitors to the site or mobile users enter their address to see every local restaurant that delivers to them. Diners can view menus and coupons, read reviews and order for free online, by phone or through the GrubHub iPhone and Android apps.

“By combining its ability to aggressively scale its footprint and mobile platforms with Dotmenu’s proven leadership in college markets across the country, GrubHub is the clear leader in the online ordering space,” said Bill Gurley, general partner of Benchmark Capital. “This move will make GrubHub a household name, such as Benchmark’s other on-line portfolio companies OpenTable, Yelp and Zillow.”

There are more than 300,000 delivery and takeout restaurants in the country. On average, GrubHub users order out more than 10 times a month and over 22 percent of GrubHub’s revenues come through mobile orders. Pickup and delivery are the fastest growing segments in the restaurant industry, which is one of the largest sectors of the U.S. economy. With more people searching for restaurants and ordering food on-line and through smartphones, the opportunity for continued growth is substantial.

“GrubHub and Dotmenu have a shared vision to make online and mobile food ordering easier and more efficient for diners and restaurants,” said Maloney. “The acquisition is a natural fit for us and we are extremely excited to be able to share our mobile capabilities with their expansive network of diners and restaurants. This is an amazing opportunity for both companies.”
