Cuban restaurant, Havana Central, was opened by Jeremy Merrin more than 20 years ago. Although the original location was small, it saw immediate success and now Jeremy has two locations in Times Square and Long Island.

What does it mean to serve people in your neighborhood?

It’s cool to not only serve the NYC community, but to deliver our food into local offices and apartments and know that people are enjoying our Cuban cuisine in the comfort of their own space. To know our Ropa Vieja is part of someone’s Netflix & Chill vibe, or that our empanadas are part of a big meeting at the huge corporations we cater to in Midtown? All of that brings a smile to my face.

How have Grubhub’s marketing tools helped your restaurant?

We have been engaged in a variety of promotions – targeting repeat customers and new customers. For us, the promos that seem to do best are for new customers.

What’s your favorite dish you serve?

Our Vaca Frita is our signature dish. Juicy shredded steak doused in garlic and lime with peppers and onions. Paired with freshly made cilantro rice and topped off with a runny fried egg. It’s a home-run of a dish and something I am very proud of.

What is one thing you’d want other restaurant owners to know about Grubhub?

It will save you labor with delivery and it’s very easy and convenient to use.

What does the future look like for your restaurant?

We’ve sold more than 7 million empanadas to date and hope for at least another 7 million sold in the future! We’ll continue to serve up our classic Cuban cuisine but will constantly look for fresh ways to bring fun ingredients into the mix and of course keeping the fun factor in our restaurants is a huge part of who we are!
