After her husband lost his job in the early 2000s, Felippa’s family needed a new plan for how they would support themselves. While Felippa never worked in a kitchen, she was a waitress in a restaurant growing up. Her interest in the restaurant industry led to the opening of Janik’s Cafe (formerly Janik’s Subs) in 2003.

What does it mean to serve people in your neighborhood?

I am very passionate about people and the food they are consuming, so it means a lot. One of my favorite parts of the job is interacting with customers and seeing them connect with one another – I have one couple that met at Janik’s and got married. Today they have a 17-year old kid!

How have Grubhub’s marketing tools helped your restaurant?

The promotions that run on Grubhub’s platforms perform well and have brought in a lot of people into the restaurant.

What’s your favorite dish you serve?

Our menu is huge and broad – but a few fan favorites include our lime chicken soup, chilaquiles and french toast.

What is one thing you’d want other restaurant owners to know about Grubhub?

Grubhub offers strong support for restaurants and will help you reach new customers. Right now, I am really excited about getting on Grubhub Catering.

What does the future look like for your restaurant?

My kids have made it clear they don’t want the restaurant, but I would be open to passing it along to someone else to run eventually. For now, my passion is my customers so I want to continue doing what I am doing for as long as possible.
