To help track how delivery and pickup restaurants are responding to this growing trend, GrubHub, the nation’s number one food ordering service, has identified the 10 most vegetarian-friendly cities in the country, with Seattle and San Jose, Calif., topping the list.

To compile the veggie-friendly ranking, GrubHub analysts reviewed the more than 15,000 online ordering restaurants available through GrubHub’s website and mobile apps. More than 9 percent of GrubHub’s restaurants identify vegetarian as one of their primary cuisines, with the following cities offering the highest percentage of vegetarian restaurants:

Most Vegetarian-Friendly Cities**

“Local restaurants are working to meet the growing demands of diners, and diners are asking for delivery and pickup options that cater to certain dietary restrictions,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO. “GrubHub has more than 1,400 restaurants that feature vegetarian cuisine, and this number will only continue to grow in the coming years.”

Carnivore, herbivore or omnivore, regardless of dietary choices, diners can find their next great meal by using one of GrubHub’s 80+ cuisine filters. Filter options range from Kosher, Vegan and Organic to Pizza, Wings and Dessert. Here are some additional tips for finding the perfect GrubHub meal:

  • Looking for THE one. Searching for a more specific menu item? Type the specification, such as gluten-free, into GrubHub’s “What would you like?” search box. Restaurants with gluten-free options will show up in the search results, with matching gluten-free items identified at the top of the restaurant menu.
  • Have it on the side. Utilize the special instructions box if to clarify any preparation instructions. For instance, diners can ask the restaurant to put the sauce on the side or refrain from salting the french fries.
  • Additional questions? Call, chat or tweet the customer service team at GrubHub, and our customer service representatives will work with the restaurant to answer any questions.

Exotic Toppings Popular As Pizza Claims Most Patriotic Food

Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken Among GrubHub List of Most Popular Pizzas

CHICAGO, June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — As Americans begin dusting off the red, white and blue decorations, GrubHub, the nation’s number one food ordering service, dusted off the past year of orders to identify the most patriotic food. While it may come as no surprise that pizza tops the list of favorite American foods, diners’ tastes have evolved to prefer more unusual pizza toppings, with Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken ranking among GrubHub’s most popular pizza toppings.

To identify the most popular American food, GrubHub analysts sorted through more than 2.5 million orders from restaurants serving American cuisine. Although pizza originated in the Italian city of Naples, the American iteration of this culinary staple has had a special place in American hearts since the early 1800s. According to GrubHub diners, the most popular pizza is cheese, with Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken rounding out the top five:

American’s Favorite Pizza*
1.   Cheese Pizza
2.   Pepperoni Pizza
3.   Sausage Pizza
4.   Hawaiian Pizza
5.   Buffalo Chicken Pizza

“While it may seem bizarre that Hawaiian pizza is so popular, it isn’t that surprising given how much the food industry has changed in the past few years,” said Matt Maloney, GrubHub co-founder and CEO. “Even the way people order food has changed. Instead of reading an order over the phone to a restaurant, diners can now tap a few buttons on GrubHub’s mobile app and order enough to feed their entire 4th of July party.”

Whether diners decide to go American over the holiday or not, GrubHub’s online and mobile ordering platforms are fully supported by GrubHub’s 24/7 customer service team:

  • GrubHub handles everything. Stuck in a post-fireworks traffic jam and afraid you won’t be home in time to meet the delivery driver? Contact GrubHub’s customer service team, and they will handle all communications with the restaurant.
  • No language barriers. GrubHub’s customer service team speaks up to eight different languages at any time, helping GrubHub serve its diverse diner and restaurant base.
  • Always accessible. Regardless of a diner’s preferred method of communication, GrubHub is there. GrubHub’s customer service team is available via phone, chat, twitter or email.

GrubHub Identifies Top Warm Weather Ordering Trends

Increase in Non-Traditional Menu Items Signifies Growing Delivery and Takeout Appetite

CHICAGO, May 22, 2012 – Spring is in full swing, and with the climbing temperatures comes the craving for seasonal fare. While traditional staples remain popular, GrubHub, the nation’s number one online and mobile food ordering service, has identified the kabob as the new warm weather culinary trend, with the food item growing in order popularity by more than 25 percent since 2011.

Warm-weather favorites like burgers and ribs continue to be commonly ordered menu items, but GrubHub analysts sorted through millions of transactions to determine the hot new menu items by comparing year-over-year ordering behaviors. According to GrubHub’s ordering data, hot dog consumption dropped while the non-traditional Kabob has increased in popularity.

Item                  YOY Popularity*
Kabob 27%
Burger 6.5%
Ribs -4.5%
Hot Dog -11.5%
BBQ -14.5%

“The growing trend for ordering non-traditional food items further illustrates that delivery and pickup extend far beyond the usual pizza,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO. “GrubHub makes it easy for diners to order from their go-to restaurant or find new favorites through our unique filtering options.”

For diners looking to expand their culinary horizons, GrubHub offers a variety of ways to search for available pickup and delivery restaurants:

CHICAGO, Ill. (April 10, 2012) – As the tax-filing deadline looms, Americans are taking inventory of their expenses and assessing spending habits. With some Americans celebrating successful tax refunds and others tightening purse strings, GrubHub, the nation’s leading online and mobile food ordering service, has identified the most affordable and expensive restaurant cuisines available for delivery and pickup.

GrubHub analysts sorted through more than 1.5 million menu items and 80 cuisine types to rank affordability.

Budget-Friendly Fare:

  1. Jamaican
  2. Cantonese
  3. Halal
  4. Mandarin
  5. Pizza

Splurge-Worthy Plates:

  1. Fine Dining
  2. French
  3. Korean
  4. Persian
  5. African

“Great delivery and takeout food is available at any price point,” said Mike Evans, GrubHub co-founder and COO. “Diners have the option to enjoy the $8 burger and fries or indulge in the $18 steak frites in the comfort of their home.”

In addition to sorting available pickup and delivery restaurants by cuisine, GrubHub diners can use the following sorting features to feed their food cravings without busting their budget:

·      Order minimum. Order minimums vary by restaurant and can range from $0 to $30. If ordering a meal for one, minimums may encourage a diner to add extra items to their order. But who doesn’t love leftovers?

·      Delivery fee. Like order minimums, delivery fees vary by restaurant and delivery distance. Avoid these entirely by ordering a meal for pickup.

·      Coupon filter. Looking for a deal? By applying GrubHub’s “Offers Coupons” filter, diners only view the restaurants offering deals and specials.
